One option you might consider for the footings, particularly those close to the house, is helical piles. They're competitive with standard concrete footings in price, and can be installed through backfill down to solid ground. I'm editing an article on them right now, and I'm impressed.

so i am now going to start the deck this week end, and i am going to attach it to the house.
My only problem is the hight i want for the deck a 6" to 8" drop from the door brings the ledger to 1/2 way on my cement foundation and 1/2 on the rim joist of the house.
the cement is a 1/2'' set back from the sheething of the house/ vinyle siding.
Would it be ok if i used 5/4 to bump out the cement end and lag to the rim joist of the house and also use cement lags on the lower part?
    thanks for all input,
P.s I did get all sona tubes poured this past weekend..
