    Default Pergola Material Size

Building a 12 X 12 foot pergola 9 feet above my deck, just wndering what would look better 2 X 8's or 2 X 10's based on everyone's experience? Plan to use Pressure treated lumber as I cannot afford clear cedar board to mathc my deck material...any suggestions?

It depends upon what your talking about .. ? Rafters ? Beams ?

I think the beam's should be bigger than the rafters, - 2x8 rafters, 2x10 beams

Here is a recent pergola design we just did over a outdoor kitchen. 2x10 beams. 2x8 rafters, 2x2 stringers, 12" round poly columns.

I have been looking into building one of these over a patio that I have. I definitely think that it can change the look of things. I like the bigger wood personally. How are you guys accenting your areas? Has anyone seen http://www.familyleisure.com/Casual-Patio-Furniture? What do you guys think?

From a design perspective keeping proportions in mind, I think the 2x10 beams and 2x8 joists is the way to go
